Since opening with losses to Miami and Texas A&M, Notre Dame has rolled to nine straight victories, most recently a 70-7 rout over visiting Syracuse last week. The Fighting Irish opened a 21-0 lead in the first 5:17 of the game on interception-return touchdowns by Jalen Stroman and Leonard Moore sandwiched around a 22-yard punt return score by Luke Talich. Jeremiah Love ran for 171 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries, with Jadarian Price, Kenny Minchey, and Aneyas Williams also scoring on the ground as Notre Dame piled up 329 rushing yards. CJ Carr threw a TD pass to Will Pauling, and the defense rolled up five sacks.
Stanford reclaimed the Stanford Ax last week with a 31-10 victory over visiting Cal in the Big Game. Jay Green and Darrius Davis returned fumbles for touchdowns in the second quarter, and Micah Ford ran for 150 yards and a score on 29 carries. Elijah Brown threw for 123 yards and connected with CJ Williams on a 34-yard TD pass. The defense held the Golden Bears to 12 rushing yards and logged five quarterback sacks.
Notre Dame has beaten Stanford twice in a row and five times in their last six meetings, including a 49-7 win at home last season to take a 24-14 lead in the all-time series. The Fighting Irish enter the game with the No. 9 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings.
