The Philadelphia Phillies may end up parting ways with a former All-Star this offseason.
The Phillies boasted a 96-66 record this season, ranking second in baseball behind the Milwaukee Brewers. Despite this, the Phillies will look to make some roster adjustments this offseason after losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS. Philadelphia has key contributors set to hit free agency, including Kyle Schwarber and Ranger Suárez, and may end up with roster holes to fill.
After being involved in trade rumors last offseason, 29-year-old third baseman Alec Bohm could be traded by the Phillies this winter to shake up their offense, in an idea floated by MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.
..."He keeps getting mentioned because they tried to trade him last winter, and if they're going to shake up the offense it's an obvious place to start," Zolecki wrote Saturday. "The Mets just traded Brandon Nimmo, who had been with the team for 10 years. David Stearns said they needed to do it following their failures this year. Almost everything should be on the table this winter for the Phillies."
Bohm has spent the first six seasons of his career with the Phillies and is in his last season of arbitration eligibility. The former All-Star slashed .287/.331/.409 this season, driving in 59 runs and mashing 11 home runs. The 29-year-old's numbers dipped after being an All-Star in 2024, but he still had a productive season this year.
If the Phillies are unwilling to sign Bohm to a long-term contract, it would make sense to trade him this winter, as he is under contract for only this season. Trading Bohm could help fill any holes left by potential free agent departures.
