Roy Cropper has been left shaken by an expression of romantic interest (Picture: Shutterstock)
Roy Cropper (David Neilson) is an absolute sweetheart, so it is no wonder that someone has started to express romantic interest in him in recent Coronation Street scenes.
The café owner was notably distracted in tonight’s episode as he served his customers, getting countless orders wrong.
This caught niece Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) and employee Shona Platt’s (Julia Goulding) attention, and they both began to fret that something was seriously wrong.
Rather than ask Roy outright if anything was bothering him, they decided to investigate themselves.
Having noticed that Roy’s strange behaviour began after receiving the post,Nina and Shona stole his letters to find out what news he had had.
Nina was relieved that there weren’t any letters from the NHS, which eliminated the worry that Roy had any medical problems.

It was then that the women noticed a pink, handwritten envelope that appeared to have come from a woman called Alice.
However, they didn’t get chance to investigate any further before Roy caught them, and made it clear that he felt they had invaded his privacy.
As they apologised and explained why they had gone searching through his mail, Roy explained what had kept him so distracted.
Viewers will know that Roy has been corresponding with several prison inmates through a special pen pal scheme.
He previously explained that he understood how lonely prison can be after being incarcerated himself, having been wrongly arrested for Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) murder.
He also revealed that he had received a letter from one of the prisoners’ mums, Alice, who wanted to thank him for writing to her son.

He explained to Shona and Nina that they had continued writing to each other, but that he had been thrown by the latest letter, as it seemed to have romantic undertones.
Roy admitted that the change of tone had knocked him, and Nina and Shona were quick to offer advice.
Shona instructed Roy to be transparent with Alice, but Roy was concerned he wouldn’t be able to articulate his feelings.
In a bid to help him, Nina suggested that they all work together to draft the letter to Alice.
Will Roy decide to continue his correspondence with her, or will he cut off contact now that things have turned romantic?

Roy is perhaps best known for his long-lasting, loving relationship with wife Hayley Cropper, who he still talks about fondly today.
