A shopper was left stunned after seeing a unique jacket in a Rhode Island thrift store, only to discover that it was no ordinary high street brand – it’s Oscar de la Renta no less.

Reddit user u/nycperson54321 couldn’t believe her eyes when she spotted a quirky looking black cashmere jacket, embellished with sequins and feathers. It’s clearly a well-made and luxury garment, but the Reddit user couldn’t have guessed just how expensive it would be.

The jacket was marked down to $75, but as it’s Oscar de la Renta, it would have originally retailed for much more. Needless to say, the 33-year-old Reddit user had no reservations about buying the jacket, telling Newsweek that “the price was too good to walk away.”

Indeed, u/nycperson54321 found the same jacket selling on eBay for an astonishing $2,450.

...

“I saw the designer tag through a plastic clothes cover it was in, and when I saw the $75 price, I knew that I scored big,” she said. “It’s not my usual style, but I was drawn to it because I had been shopping for holiday party attire and it seemed perfect.

“I thought it might be a little too much, but I tried it and it fit me perfectly. I had been shopping all day and refrained from buying something, and this was my last stop. So, it was meant to be,” she continued.

After buying the Oscar de la Renta piece, u/nycperson54321 couldn’t resist sharing a picture of herself wearing it on the Reddit thread, Thrift Store Hauls. The caption alongside the photo reads: “I’m literally freaking out!!! Oscar de la Renta for $75.”

Internet users can’t get enough of the incredible second-hand discovery. In just a matter of hours, the Reddit post has gone viral with over 6,700 votes and generated more than 200 comments at the time of writing.

Plenty of social media users took to the comments section to praise the thrifting purchase. Many were keen to find out how u/nycperson54321 plans to style it (given that it is a rather flamboyant garment, after all).

As a result, she explained that she’s planning to turn it into a shirt by adding some hooks to the front. Once it’s been updated, she plans to debut her designer jacket at this year’s holiday parties.

“It’s currently open except for a snap closure at the very top. I’m planning to take it to the tailor to add more snap closures or hooks so I can wear it as a shirt. I will leave the top open, so it’s cut low and just closes and sinches towards middle,” u//nycperson54321 said.

She plans to style the jacket with black pants, silver jewelry, and a pointed red heel. It has now become one of her two top thrifting finds, and she’s so excited to see how it brings her outfit to life this festive season.

Living in New York City, she told Newsweek that she knows she’ll get “a lot of compliments” when she finally wears it out.

Among the hundreds of comments on the Reddit post, many people couldn’t deny their envy over the designer bargain.

One comment reads: “I am seething with jealousy. That's such an incredible piece. Congratulations!”

Another Reddit user wrote: “Just beautiful! It looks like it was made for you!”

Another person replied: “This is such a fun holiday piece!”

While one commenter added: “This is fantastic and such a lucky find!”
