The Toronto Blue Jays came one run short of winning the World Series this year, but they've already begun bolstering their roster to get back there next year. The Blue Jays reportedly agreed to a deal with starting pitcher Dylan Cease to begin the offseason.
Now the Blue Jays will need to turn to free agency to make more moves. There are a few holes on the roster that need to be patched, including one created by Bo Bichette hitting free agency.
Andrew Tredinnick of NorthJersey.com recently predicted the Blue Jays would re-sign Bichette in free agency this winter. Bichette is projected to sign a $189 million deal, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic.
..."Defending American League champions proved they're all-in by bringing in Dylan Cease," Tredinnick wrote. "They keep this core piece, as well."
Bichette would be the dream signing for the Blue Jays this winter after the Cease deal. But signing Cease puts the Blue Jays in a difficult spot with their money.
Bichette is likely headed for a huge contract this winter, which only a few teams around the league could afford. The Blue Jays are seemingly one of those teams, but the Cease deal, worth over $200 million, would complicate things a bit.
Still, the Blue Jays should have enough money to make it work. They were close enough to the World Series this year that they could get very desperate in free agency. This is the kind of move that would help put them back in the hunt for the championship again next year.
