By Jason LemonShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberRussian President Vladimir Putin said that his country is prepared to fight against European nations, many of which are part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), in a comments to reporters on Tuesday.
"We are not going to fight Europe; I've said this a hundred times. But if Europe suddenly decides to fight and starts, we are ready right now," Putin told reporters, according to Russia's Interfax news agency.
The Russian leader's remarks come as tensions remain high with NATO countries amid the ongoing Ukraine War. While President Donald Trump has pushed for a peace deal in the conflict, European nations and analysts have increasingly warned that Putin's ambitions may go well beyond a partial takeover of Ukrainian territory.
