A woman was puzzled when her dog's fur felt unusually soft after her boyfriend bathed him, only to discover he had used her expensive shampoo.

Owner Olivia Cisneros told Newsweek via TikTok that her boyfriend, Reuben Lewin, offered to bathe the dog, Stubby. She appreciated the thoughtful gesture until she realized what he used to make Stubby's fur extra soft and glossy. He bathed the dog in her shower, grabbing the first shampoo bottle he saw: her 50 dollar OUAI shampoo.

"My first reaction was pure shock because I couldn't believe he would use my expensive shampoo to wash the dog, but he didn't know it was expensive," she said. "He never pays more than $10 for his shampoo."

Lewin did not understand her frustration, unaware of the high price tag. Cisneros even called her sister to prove that she would understand immediately. Even after hearing her sister's shocked reaction, Lewin thought only some people would get it, leading Cisneros to put it to the test and share the dilemma on her TikTok account @livlemon88 on November 26.

Dog shows off after bath...

In the video, which reached over 2 million views as of Tuesday, Stubby twirled with excitement, showing off his fresh look. He sat and smiled while looking up at Cisneros, as if to say his coat had never been this shiny before.

"[The video] blew up more than we were expecting," Cisneros said. "I showed him all the comments, proving that a lot of people 'get it' without having to explain."

As Cisneros predicted, hundreds of TikTok users couldn't believe Lewin used OUAI shampoo, but most defended the decision after seeing Stubby beyond happy.

"Omg he looked so happy to smell like one of his fave humans," wrote one person, while another added: "The spin to show you his makeover is everything."

The official account for OUAI even commented: "He really saw all hair types and ran with it."

Dog Shampoo Vs. Human Shampoo

It may be tempting to use your own shampoo when washing your dog, but experts warn against it because canines have more sensitive skin than humans.

Dogs and humans have different skin pH balances. A dog’s skin is more neutral than a human’s, according to an article from the American Kennel Club. Specific shampoos for each help maintain the proper pH, protecting and moisturizing their skin.

Human shampoo can irritate a dog’s skin and strip away protective oils. This might cause dryness, flakiness and itching, sometimes leading to infections. Canines could also become more vulnerable to parasites, viruses and bacteria.

That said, in a pinch, the article added, human shampoo is unlikely to cause serious harm, especially since many of today's shampoos are made from gentle and natural ingredients that are less likely to damage canines' skin.
