Sainsbury’s shelves have never looked so delicious.

With the festive season just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to indulge in some top tier baked goods.

Recently, Sainsbury’s has put in a solid shift to keep Brits satisfied. Shoppers lost their minds over the Taste the Difference Belgian Dark Chocolate and Fudge Sourdough Bloomer – with some customers calling it the ‘best thing ever.’

And now, social media is obsessing over a different product in the Taste the Difference range: a Bombay Potato Boule.

Specifically it’s a lightly curry spiced bread with potato pieces, dried apricot, dried onion and onion seeds – yum.

Priced at £2.30 (20p less than the chocolate sourdough) this isn’t technically a new product, having been on Sainsbury’s shelves since June 2024.

However, it seems to have been on hiatus as a number of people on TikTok are only just discovering it now.

‘Oh my god it’s back’ @bethfrsmith commented underneath a video of the loaf.

Reviews from the Sainsbury’s website confirm that this is not a new launch from the supermarket, but that people are very into it.

User Angej wrote: ‘I bought this last week and wasn’t quite sure what to expect, or what to eat it with, in the end we tried it toasted with butter – absolutely delicious, it’s different and very tasty, will definitely be buying again.’Another customer added: ‘Absolutely adored the Bombay bread. Will definitely buy it again if I manage to get to the shop before everyone else discovers it!’

Foodie TikToker @eatswithalia has reviewed a number of Sainsbury’s products in the past – playing a major role in kickstarting viral foods on social media.

And while she did review the Bombay bread, the creator also mentioned how she currently has beef with the supermarket, claiming they used multiple comments from one of her popular videos and didn’t credit her.

Even still, Alia was thoroughly impressed with the bread, calling it ‘banging,’ ‘amazing’ and ‘a smart idea.’

The TikToker also made a point to shout out the food team at Sainsbury’s, noting ‘The people that come up with these ideas – I love you guys, you guys are geniuses.’

And it’s true, the food teams at UK supermarkets are killing it at the minute.

The masterminds behind Lidl’s bakery aisle definitely deserve a round of applause, winning over shoppers with incredible treats like the Chocolate Brioche Croissant or the White and Milk Chocolate Drizzle Doughnut.

If you do manage to get your hands on the Bombay potato bread, make sure to try it with some mango chutney – a delicious combination approved by foodies online.

How did we rate Sainsbury's Christmas sandwiches?

Ho Ho Half and Half (2/5) – priced at £3.25, Metro‘s resident food expert Courtney Pochin was not particularly impressed with this sandwich:

‘The meat option was solid, with nice herby sausages and salty bacon offset by a tangy – yet not too sweet – chutney.’

‘As for the brie, I wasn’t a fan – I’m not a major brie lover anyway, so maybe cheese fanatics will see this as a plus point, but it was quite overpowering, while wet spinach (and therefore slightly soggy bread) didn’t help.’

Taste the Difference Shredded Duck and Stuffing Brioche Roll (4/5) – The £4.50 roll, on the other hand, was quite the success:

‘Big in size and flavour, and an actually unique take on the standard Christmas sandwich. The roll itself was soft and sweet, as was the duck, while spring onions and red cabbage offered a pleasing crunchy contrast.’

‘The stuffing kind of gets lost, but if I hadn’t read the packaging, I wouldn’t have missed it.’
