The Boston Red Sox desperately need to make some big moves this offseason, and they are in the perfect position to do so. The Red Sox have a talented roster, but there are a few holes on it, notably at third base after Alex Bregman opted out of his deal.
Bregman's free agency is going to be one of the top storylines of the Red Sox's offseason. He's projected to sign a massive $182 million deal, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic. The Red Sox need to be in on him no matter the cost.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recently predicted the Red Sox would land Bregman on a new deal in free agency this winter.
..."Like the Yankees, the Boston Red Sox are looking to bring back a high-profile player who was just added a year ago," Knox wrote. "Third baseman Alex Bregman signed a three-year, $120 million deal with Boston in February, but, as expected, he opted-out at the start of the offseason. According to Passan, the Red Sox would like to have him back but will face stiff competition on the open market."
The Red Sox should be abl to land Bregman on a new deal while having the money to sign a big slugger next to him. But Bregman should be the priority.
The veteran third baseman was one of the best players in the American League this year, when he was healthy, and he could be even better next year. Aside from him, they could look to land a big deal with Pete Alonso or Kyle Schwarber to add some additional pop to the lineup.
