Former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Bradley Zimmer has reportedly retired from professional baseball. He played in six seasons in the big leagues, but has not appeared in a big league game since 2022.
Zimmer was the 21st pick in the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft from the University of San Francisco by the Cleveland Guardians. He was a top 100 prospect in 2026 and the Guardians' No. 1 overall prospect. He made his debut in 2017 and played five seasons for the Guardians franchise.
After slashing .225/.310/.347 with 19 home runs in 263 games, he was traded to the Blue Jays in 2022. In that same season, he was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays and claimed by the Philadelphia Phillies.
...The Phillies designated him for assignment after nine games and the Blue Jays claimed him off waivers. He played in 101 games for the Blue Jays, but failed to become a star. He slashed .101/.200/.213 and hit just two home runs. The veteran centerfielder was designated for assignment after the season and entered free agency.
He has since then appeared in minor league games for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox. He signed a minor league contract with the Colorado Rockies before the 2024 season, but was released before playing in a game. He has not signed with another team.
Once a highly touted prospect, Zimmer finished his career with a .631 OPS and 21 home runs. He never turned into the star the Guardians hoped he would when they spent a first-round pick on him.
