By James BrizuelaShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe Kansas City Chiefs proved why they can never be counted out, as the team pulled off a big win against the Indianapolis Colts. The issue is that All-Pro tackle Trey Smith suffered an ankle injury in the game, and the latest update on his health is bad news for Patrick Mahomes.

Smith has been one of the most dependable offensive linemen in the NFL, playing in 17 games in nearly every season of his career. However, it appears that his healthy streak is now over.
During the Colts game, Smith suffered an ankle injury when the Chiefs were trailing the Colts 17-9 in the third quarter. Shortly after the injury occurred, the lineman was ruled out of the game.
Smith has now received an update on his ankle injury, which is worse than expected.

Per Ian Rapoport, Smith suffered a low and high ankle sprain, meaning that he is set to miss multiple games.

"#Chiefs Pro Bowl guard Trey Smith is dealing with both high- and low-ankle sprains, sources say. Smith is expected to miss some time, including likely against the #Cowboys on Thursday," Rapoport wrote on X.
This is a huge hit to the offensive line and is bad news for Mahomes. The star quarterback has been sacked 24 times, which is the 10th worst in the NFL. Losing a talent like Smith could make that number increase dramatically.
Another issue is that Smith being out might severely impact the run game, which has already struggled. However, Kareem Hunt did have a breakout game of 104 yards and a touchdown.
The Chiefs are sitting at 6-5, but still remain low in the AFC playoff picture. The Buffalo Bills hold the seventh seed at 7-4, and in eighth are the 6-5 Pittsburgh Steelers, followed by the ninth-seed 6-5 Houston Texans.
Kansas City needs a lot of help to ensure they can make the postseason, and they will also need to continue to win games. A win against the Colts should inspire confidence, but losing Smith for multiple weeks will be tough to deal with.
