By Cole SullivanShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberWeek 12’s “Sunday Night Football” broadcast on NBC marked a special milestone for former NFL WR and current color commentator Cris Collinsworth.
Alongside play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Los Angeles Rams matchup, Collinsworth officially called his 500th career game for NBC, a milestone the network announced prior to Sunday’s game.
NBC even produced a video honoring Collinsworth, featuring several colleagues congratulating him on the achievement, including Troy Aikman, Joe Buck, and his longtime broadcast partner, with whom he called 263 games, the legendary Al Michaels.
“13 seasons, 263 games, four Super Bowls, a total blast,” Michaels said. “I want to congratulate you on 500 games. And here, my friend, to 500 more.”

Collinsworth spent eight seasons in the NFL as a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals. He was a three-time Pro Bowler, earned three consecutive All-Pro selections, and recorded four 1,000-yard receiving seasons in an era that heavily emphasized the running game.
Since retiring, he has become one of the premier faces of NFL broadcasting. In a recent Los Angeles Times article, Michaels offered more insight, reflecting on his longtime relationship with Collinsworth.
“I spent 13 years with Cris and loved every moment,” Michaels said. “He has humor and understands the game on a level that’s almost unparalleled. There are others who understand it as well, but Cris has the ability to make it very accessible.”
...Collinsworth has now called 96 games alongside Tirico in the booth, and they are set to surpass the 100-game mark later this season, making Tirico the only other broadcaster to reach triple digits with Collinsworth. Meanwhile, Al Michaels continues to call games for Prime Video’s "Thursday Night Football" alongside Kirk Herbstreit.
