The Los Angeles Lakers held off a late comeback from the Utah Jazz on Sunday night, securing a 108-106 victory to improve to 12-4 on the season—but it came at a slight cost.

Starting center Deandre Ayton left the game early after suffering a right knee contusion in a collision with Jazz rookie Ace Bailey. While the injury doesn’t appear to be serious, it could still sideline Ayton for at least one game.

“I mean, everybody’s got to be ready again,” Redick said. “I don’t want to speculate on DA, but we feel confident that we have enough options.”

In response, the Lakers made an intriguing roster move on Monday, waiving center Christian Koloko to make room for former college basketball standout and current G League star Drew Timme. Timme, who has been playing for the Lakers’ G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, will now join the pro team on a two-way deal.

Timme has thrived in the G League, averaging 25.5 points, eight rebounds, and four assists for South Bay this season. He also finished last season with the Brooklyn Nets.

Drew Timme is widely regarded as one of the best college basketball players in recent memory, thanks to his standout career with the Gonzaga Bulldogs from 2019 to 2023.

He appeared in 134 games, finishing his college career averaging 17.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. As a senior, he averaged 21.2 points and earned numerous accolades, including three-time consensus All-American honors, two-time WCC Player of the Year, a spot on the 2020–21 All-NCAA Tournament team, and the 2023 Karl Malone Award as the nation’s top power forward.
