TCL finally put AMOLED behind its NXTPAPER display, and the result is stunning [Gallery]
TCL’s NXTPAPER display tech has been something I’ve been keeping my eye on for years now. The anti-glare look alone has sold me time and time again, and TCL has only been improving it in recent years. But after seeing TCL finally put AMOLED behind NXTPAPER, I’m sold, and I want more right away.
At MWC 2026, TCL revealed that its next generation of NXTPAPER will start using AMOLED displays instead of the long-running use of IPS LCD. TCL touts that this “combines the unparalleled picture quality, rich, finely detailed visuals and exceptional brightness of AMOLED with TCL’s industry-leading eye care display performance.” And, yeah, I’ll have to agree with that one.
TCL hasn’t actually announced any products using AMOLED displays yet, but the concept device showing it off looks brilliant in person – pictures simply can’t do it justice. Truly, it’s like looking at a vibrant picture printed on a piece of paper.
Side-by-side with the TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro, a device that’s set to launch in the US in April and still uses IPS LCD, the difference is incredibly and instantly noticeable. Not only is the AMOLED display more vibrant, it’s drastically brighter, to the point where the prior generation looks dim and foggy by comparison under the matte coating (at least in TCL’s brightly-lit booth).
On top of the brighter and more vibrant panel underneath, TCL says that its next-gen NXTPAPER AMOLED tech will have automatic adjustments for brightness and color temperature, while also reducing blue light by another 15% compared to NXTPAPER 4.0, reaching “as low as” 2.9%. TCL also says that its Circular Polarization Rate “has been elevated from 57% to 90% compared to the previous generation.” What that means to a human being is that the display’s light output more closely mirrors natural light – probably a key reason that it looks so good in person.
TCL also said that this early sample has a “1.5K,” “flagship-level AMOLED” display.

Again, no products have been announced using this tech just yet, but I’m thrilled to see it happening.
I just hope that, for once, TCL puts this tech on a higher-end device. A mid-sized tablet with NXTPAPER and AMOLED would be amazing if it actually had some reasonable power behind it. Alas, we’ll have to wait and see, but TCL is absolutely on to something here.
