When the Philadelphia Eagles took a 21-0 lead in the second quarter of Sunday's game versus the Dallas Cowboys and held a 14-point lead late in the third quarter, it looked like they were on their way to their ninth win of this season.
Instead, their 21st point was their final one of the day. In the final quarter, they missed a field goal, and running back Saquon Barkley fumbled the football, and the Eagles' miscues resulted in a 24-21 loss on a last-second field goal by Dallas' Brandon Aubrey.
Even before Sunday's defeat, there have been calls for Philly to make changes offensively and open things up. Critics have charged that the team's offense is too boring and too conservative and lacks the capability to be explosive.
But head coach Nick Sirianni says that he will continue to have offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo be the team's play caller on offense, per The Athletic.
“No, I haven’t,” Sirianni said. “As coaches, we’re always looking for answers. We’re never into assigning blame. It’s just looking for answers. I think what sometimes can happen is, ‘It’s just that!’ Well, it’s not just that. It’s every piece of the puzzle — coaching, playing, execution, scheme. Everything. We’ve got to be better in all those aspects.”

The Eagles, who are the defending Super Bowl champions and have gotten to the big game in two of the last three seasons, play old-school, smash-mouth or complementary football. Their defense, while not as savage as it was a year ago, remains strong, as does their offensive line, which has allowed them to continue to be successful playing their style of football.
But they entered Monday ranked 17th in scoring, 24th in total yards and 26th in first downs. Barkley's numbers are down considerably after a sensational 2024 campaign in which he reached 2,000 rushing yards and won the Offensive Player of the Year award, and there have been multiple reports that wide receiver A.J. Brown, a three-time Pro Bowler, has been upset about his role in the offense.
Brown's numbers are down this year, and there were rumors that he was going to be moved prior to the trade deadline, but he remained put.

If any Eagles fans are hoping that Sirianni may replace Patullo anytime soon, it likely won't happen, at least according to Sirianni.
“It’s never in football, just one thing, even though you’re always looking for answers,” Sirianni said. “So no, I haven’t considered that.”
The team will have a short break before hosting the surprising Chicago Bears, who are 8-3, on Friday.
