When it comes to planning the Christmas food shopping list, things can get pricey very quickly.
After all, a traditional offering will have all kinds of additions that a regular roast dinner doesn’t have, from cranberry sauce to Brussels sprouts and stuffing. And don’t even get us started on starters and puddings.
With that in mind, Lidl has just massively slashed the cost of its Christmas dinner, in a bid for the crown of cheapest festive dinner on the market.
This December, a family of eight will be able to do themselves a festive spread for £12 – with all the trimmings totalling just under £1.50 per head.
Now, the discounts won’t come into place until December 19, so if you were thinking of cashing in for earlier friendsmas celebrations, you’ll still have to pay full whack.
However, there’s no doubting that there are some absolute savings to be made, as a whole turkey will cost £2.95 per kilo (or £9 for a 3.5kg bird), while most of the vegetable offerings will be discounted to just 8p a pop.

Plus, there’ll be 15 Yorkshire puddings on offer for 46p, a packet of stuffing will set you back 45p, and 300g of gravy totals £1.09.
That’s not all, either: Lidl has assured customers that these savings will make its Christmas dinner the cheapest of all the supermarkets, but if you happen to stumble across a cheaper offering elsewhere, all you’ll need to do is provide a receipt, and you’ll get a price match.
The announcement comes after Martin Lewis named Costo as his destination of choice for super savings on Christmas food. Will he now be switching to the German retailer?
How much does a Christmas dinner from Lidl cost?
- Birchwood whole turkey: £2.95 per kilo
- Newgate gravy (300g): £1.09
- Newgate stuffing: 45p
- Simply 15 Yorkshire puddings: 46p
- Brussels sprouts (500g): 8p
- Carrots (1kg): 8p
- White potatoes (2kg): 8p
- Swede (individual): 8p
- Parsnips (500g): 8p
- Echalion shallots (300g): 8p.
That’s not the only thing Lidl has been doing of late to get that festive cheer going nice and early (yes, we know it’s still November).

The supermarket chain is celebrating the launch of its 1,000th store opening – in East Grinstead in Sussex, no less.
To mark the opening, the retailer is giving away limited-edition Lidl gingerbread kits, and trust us when we say you’ll want to get your hands on one, as there are surprises hidden inside – including £100 vouchers.
The kit does exactly what it says on the (biscuit) tin: it’s a buildable gingerbread house shaped just like the budget shop itself, and is intended for fans to build at home this Christmas.
