By Rachael O'ConnorShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberHearts have broken over a tiny dog trying his best to join his owners on vacation.
Paddington, a mixed breed, lives with his owner and fellow canine sister, Daisy. The beloved pets have a whole TikTok account, @hueydaisypaddington, dedicated to their daily adventures.
His owner told Newsweek: "He was a stray before he wandered into our backyard in the middle of a cold winter over seven years ago. He had no chip or tag, and after waiting over a month with no luck finding his previous owner, he decided to stay and join our family and our two Maltese at the time.
"That’s how he became Paddington," she said, referencing the classic story of Paddington Bear.
"He fit right in, and even started looking more and more like the Maltese. One question we get all the time is what breed he is. His DNA test didn’t give a clear answer, but since he resembles the Maltese so much, we usually just tell everyone he’s a maltipoo."
It's clear both Paddington and Daisy are extremely well loved, and attached to their owner at the hip—but dogs aren't always able to go everywhere with their people, as one recent video proves.
In a clip shared on October 21, viewed more than 82,000 times, Paddington's owner wrote: "Caught Paddington packing his fav toy & himself into my suitcase."
It shows the tiny dog standing next to the open suitcase, half-packed with items for the trip—and he then drops a chew toy into the middle of it.
But he's not done, as Paddington then climbs into the suitcase himself, and settles down into it while giving his owner the ultimate puppy-eyes.
...His owner explained to Newsweek that her maltipoo, Huey, who sadly died earlier this year, "used to sit in our open suitcase ever since he was a puppy. I’m guessing Paddington learned this little habit from him."
She said that Paddington doesn't usually play with toys, apart from the chew toy he tried to pack. And before taking the video, "I noticed that toy in my suitcase.
"I took it out, but he kept putting it back in and then sat right next to it. I was smiling but also a little sad, imagining he was saying, 'I’m packed and comfortable, where are we going?'"
"Oh man, this is rough," his owner wrote in the caption of the video.
And TikTok users agreed, with one commenter writing: "AND YOU BETTER BE TAKING HIM," another agreeing: "If he can't come, we ain't going."
..."He is packing the essentials," another joked, as one put it: "He saw you packing your favorite things and thought he'd help ya out."
Paddington's owner said she was "really touched" by the reaction to her video, "especially from people who shared that their fur babies do the same."
And while she would have loved to take Paddington on her trip, it wasn't exactly possible—as she was flying from the United States to Tokyo, to visit her sister.
"It really breaks my heart every time I have to leave them behind, but thankfully they’re always in great hands—with their human dad," she said. "We also planned a road trip to California with them afterward, it’s my little way of making it up to them!"
