Lane Kiffin continues to keep the college football world waiting as he decides on his coaching future.
Kiffin has the No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels poised with a 10-1 record heading into this coming Friday's Egg Bowl matchup against Mississippi State. After this crucial regular-season finale, the highly-sought-after coach will announce his decision in a press conference — choosing between lucrative head coaching offers from Ole Miss, LSU and Florida.
During Monday's episode of "Another Dooley Noted Podcast," Florida Gators legend Steve Spurrier weighed in with his thoughts on the drama surrounding Kiffin.
Spurrier is staunch in his belief that Kiffin should be able to finish out the 2025 college football season with the Rebels, who are positioned as serious contenders for a College Football Playoff national title.
"Everybody's waiting to see what Lane Kiffin's going to do Saturday after the Egg Bowl... He'll have a lot of cameras on him for the Egg Bowl," Spurrier said. "It is a touchy situation. Seems like if they would just say, ‘Hey, I am going to coach this team until the season is over. If nobody wants to wait for me, I don’t care. I’m going to coach this season and finish it off. Because we started it.’"
"It's good to finish whatever the heck you started," the legendary coach continued. "They've got possibly the best team in school history. Give him and that team a chance to finish out... Just wait until it's all over. But they're not doing it that way."
Spurrier served as Florida's head coach for 12 years from 1990-2001, leading the program to a 122-27 overall record and its first national championship victory in 1996. Kiffin idolized Spurrier growing up.
"I wanted to be Steve Spurrier," Kiffin said in an interview earlier this year. "When I watched him and his offenses in the visor and kind of the way he'd throw jabs at other coaches and team and stuff, I was like, Steve Spurrier is the man. That's what I want to be."
...Kiffin and Ole Miss will kickoff against Mississippi State at noon ET on Friday.
