McDonald's is always keeping its customers happy with frequent menu changes. While the Golden Arches treat us to new burgers, new sides and even the odd Grimace Shake or Biscoff McFlurry, recent changes have also seen this year's Christmas menu - themed around The Grinch - land in branches. And up until earlier this month fans of the chain also had the chance to sample the World Heist menu - which brought foodie highlights from Japan, Canada, Australia, Poland and other countries to the UK. The menu included the Pineapple McSpicy, Black Pepper and Garlic McNuggets and more, reminding us there's more to Maccys than the burgers and fries we all know. Looking further across at the fast food chain across the road, here are some other global offerings which have yet to surface on the UK menu... (Picture: Shutterstock / Robert V Schwemmer)
1. Panzerotti (Italy)
Italy's McDonald's offers a cheesy delight known as the Panzerotti. It's made with Italian tomatoes and mozzarella cheese encased in a warm, flaky pastry - similar to a calzone, except these are fried rather than baked. This one's also attracted the attention of social media, with one person on Rddit calling the snack 'a stunning culinary innovation'. We're inclined to agree. (Picture: McDonald's)
2. Spicy buffalo chicken poutine (Canada)
Head to Maccys in Canada to discover the chain's own take on Poutine, a local delicacy. It includes stringy cheese curds and a savoury gravy, topped off with crispy pieces of 100% Canadian chicken breast. The dish is then drizzled with a spicy buffalo sauce and garnished with chopped green onions. Yum. (Picture: McDonald's)
3. Cottage cheese and radish McMuffin (Poland)
There's many variations on the McDonald's breakfast muffin around the world, many of which involve some version of sausage, cheese, bacon or egg. However, we've never seen anything quite like this offering from Poland. This McMuffin consists of cottage cheese, radish, rocket, spices and butter, all served up in a wheat bun. And as well as giving customers a healthier start to their day it also evokes a traditional Polish breakfast - cottage cheese is a popular breakfast option there, and is often mixed with sour cream or yoghurt to create a creamy spread before it's served with vegetables such as chives, radish or dill. 4. Corn pie (Thailand)
We might all be familiar with the McDonald's Apple Pie - that delicious combination of deep-fried pastry and hot fruit filling - but we have to say we're desperate to try this alternative. Thailand's Corn pie takes the popular treat and substitutes the apple filling for a creamy sweetcorn custard - which some have described as tasting like sweetcorn soup. Introduced in 2012, it's been a menu staple ever since. Although if that doesn't take your fancy, McD's in Thailand also offers a pineapple pie, as well as - currently - a banoffee pie. If the World Heist menu ever returns we'd love to see this on it. (Picture: McDonald's)
5. Chicken McArabia (Middle East/North Africa)
McDonald fans in the the Middle East and some North African countries can take advantage of a menu which includes this chicken delicacy. It has two Halal grilled chicken patties, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and garlic sauce, all held together by flat bread. It's a delightful fusion of Middle Eastern flavours and McDonald's fast food, and it's available in a number of countries including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Lebanon and Morocco. It can also be found on the menu in Pakistan. (Picture: McDonald's)
6. Rye Feast (Finland)
Finland's McDonald's menu offers a vast selection of beef-based options, many of which will be familiar to fans of the chain. However, one standout item you may not have seen before is the Rye Feast, which includes crispy corned beef, steak, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, and a special McFeast sauce. It's all sandwiched between two slices of hearty rye bread. (Picture: McDonald's)
7. McChicken Mozzarella (South Korea)
If you're a fan of a McDonald's chicken sandwich, but equally can't get enough of their mozzarella dippers (when they surface on the menu), then South Korean branches of the fast food giant have the answer. Their menu includes this epic offering - a sandwich which combines a crispy McChicken patty with two deep-fried mozzarella sticks. It's all topped off with a spicy 'Arabian-inspired' sauce and a heap of lettuce, all wrapped up in a sesame seed bun. We sense this could sate even the largest appetite. (Picture: McDonald's)
8. Sausage N' Egg Twisty Pasta (Hong Kong)
Hong Kong's branches of McDonald's serve up a hearty breakfast with a twist. It includes twisty pasta, fresh grade A eggs from the US, and sizzling sausage. This is combined with hot chicken or tonkotsu broth and other greens - all of which offers a unique fusion of fast food and traditional cuisine. (Picture: McDonald's)
9. Salad Burger (New Zealand)
If you're not a meat eater and fish isn't on your radar, then McDonald's in New Zealand has the answer — their menu includes this Salad Burger as a meat-free option. And there's certainly no shortage of your five a day here. It consists of two slices of tomato, shredded lettuce, slivered onions, a slice of cheese and two pickles, all topped off with a generous helping of McChicken sauce. (Picture: McDonald's)
10. Century Egg and Chicken Congee (China)
Congee is a traditional rice porridge which is made by boiling rice in water or broth until the grains break down into a pudding like consistency. Given its popularity in China - especially as a breakfast food, although it can be enjoyed at any time of day - it's no surprise to see it on the McDonald's menu in branches there. You can choose from the century egg and chicken variety (pictured) or chicken congee with pickled mustard greens and bamboo shoots, with McDonald's promising the dish 'warms the heart and stomach'. 11. Paneer McSpicy (India)
Another meat-free option here, the McSpicy Paneer burger was launched in McDonald's India back in 2011 - and has been a menu staple since then. The burger consists of a slab of crispy paneer - the popular Indian cottage cheese - served with creamy tandoori sauce and lettuce. And it's not the only time paneer features on the menu in India. Diners can also enjoy the butter paneer grilled burger, which includes a patty stopped with makhani sauce and onions, and a spicy paneer which wraps the cheese in a crunchy batter coating. Other vegetarian options at McDonald's India include a Veg Maharaja Mac, which swaps the beef for a corn and cheese patty. (Picture: McDonald's)
12. Pistachio McFlurry (Italy)
Finally, when you've finished your burger, fries, panzerotti and poutine, you'll be on the lookout for dessert. And yet again it's Italy who seems to be winning when it comes to McDonald's, since they've picked up on the popularity of pistachios to give us this treat. The pistachio McFlurry blends soft serve ice-cream with pistachio cream and nut crumbles - and as an added bonus it uses local Sicilian pistachios to enhance the flavour. We want this on UK menus, stat. (Picture: McDonald's)
