The Toronto Blue Jays aren't afraid to take a big swing and it sounds like they have at least put in a call about one of the best overall infielders in the National League.
While discussing the trade market for Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Ketel Marte, MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported that the Blue Jays are among the teams that have "checked in," along with the Philadelphia Phillies.
"Here's what I can tell you, and I talked to multiple sources on this over the last 24 hours," Morosi said as seen in a clip shared to X by MLB Network on Tuesday. "The Diamondbacks are actively listening on Ketel Marte. Nothing is close, but multiple teams have checked in. Among the teams to check in (are) the Phillies and the Blue Jays. ... Those two teams, Phillies and Jays, are not on Marte's limited no-trade clause, which means the Phillies or Jays could acquire Marte without his permission."
...Marte has played all over the infield throughout his big league career, although he is primarily a second baseman. In 2025, he appeared in 126 games and slashed .283/.376/.517 with 28 home runs, 72 RBIs, 28 doubles, and 87 runs scored.
He inked a six-year, $116.5 million deal with Arizona that will run through the 2030 season with an $11.5 million player option for the 2031 season.
If Bo Bichette were to walk in free agency, Marte would be a perfectly suitable replacement. Toronto could slot Marte in at second base with Andrés Giménez manning shortstop. It's early, but just another example of the Blue Jays looking around at big-name talent.
