By Reice ShipleyShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberOn Tuesday morning, the NFL announced that it would be reviewing a postgame altercation between Carolina Panthers safety Tre'von Moehrig and San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Hours later, the league announced it's decision on Moehrig's punishment.
On first glance, it appeared as if Jennings was the aggressor in the postgame brawl, hitting Moehrig in the face two times before players from both teams stepped in to break up the fight.
However, a video surfaced after the game showing why Jennings sought out Moehrig after the game.
Late in the fourth quarter, Moehrig appeared to punch Jennings below the belt. Jennings later revealed to reporters after the incident that this was the reason he decided to go after Moehrig when the game was over.

As a result of the unsportsmanlike act during Monday's game, the Panthers will be without their starting safety for their Week 13 game against the Los Angeles Rams. In a statement on NFL.com, the league revealed that Moehrig will be dealt a one-game suspension.
Meanwhile, the 49ers got much better news about a potential punishment that will be handed down to Jennings for his role in the altercation. Jennings will likely face a fine for the punches thrown after the game, but will not be handed down a suspension.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Moehrig plans to appeal this ruling from the NFL to potentially get his suspension overturned to just a fine.

If Moehrig's suspension holds up, it would be a massive blow for the Panthers. Thus far this season, Moehrig is the team's second leading tackler in addition to playing a key role in coverage.
Carolina will be facing off against a top-five passing offense against the Rams in Week 13. So Moehrig's absence could loom large in a game that the Panthers desperately need to win to keep pace with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the top of the NFC South.
