By Jordan SiglerShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberOn Tuesday, the College Football Playoff selection committee bumped Miami up from No. 13 to No. 12 before Week 14.
The Hurricanes will have a chance to impress the committee when they finish the regular season by traveling to face No. 22 Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Notre Dame remained at No. 9 after thumping Syracuse 70-7 on Saturday.
...In the past few weeks, there has been a great debate in college football about whether the Fighting Irish deserve to be ranked above Miami after losing their head-to-head matchup with the Hurricanes by a score of 27-24 in Week 1. Both programs have a 9-2 record heading into Week 14.
Following the rankings release on Tuesday, ESPN analyst Joey Galloway argued that ND looks like a more compelling team after Saturday when the Irish beat Syracuse by 63 points.
Galloway didn't think Miami did enough by beating Virginia Tech 34-17 in Week 13. He even discounted a Hurricanes touchdown in the final minute.
"But (Miami) played Virginia Tech," Galloway said on the ESPN broadcast. "Now they won the game. They added a touchdown at the end. It was meaningless. So let's call it a 10-point win. To see them move up, this is setting up the conversation everybody's been wanting to have.
"Can they get close enough to Notre Dame, to get them in the same grouping when we're comparing these teams? Very interesting move to see them move up one."
Galloway acknowledged Miami defeated the Irish in Week 1, but doesn't think that game holds much value after a full season of football.
“In week one Miami was a better team and thats the only time,” Galloway said.
Miami fans on social media were upset with the perceived bias presented by the former Ohio State wide receiver.
"Joey Galloway pointing to a win over Syracuse, who started a freshman walk-on in his first start, as his proof that Notre Dame is better is utterly dumbfounding," wrote a fan.

"Joey Galloway a lame it’s really simple," posted a fan.
"Joey Galloway does not like Miami. Notes Syracuse as a common opponent between Notre Dame and Miami and the difference in result (as if Miami didn't demolish Syracuse). Conveniently doesn't mention NC State, where the Pack and Irish were 10-7 at the half (Miami was up 24-0)," argued Gaby Urrutia of 247 Sports.
"Joey Galloway cannot even hide his bias against Miami, and it’s really ridiculous to see from a reporter who is supposed to be as impartial to the teams as possible. Ridiculous," posted another.
"Joey_Galloway Bro, you are simpin something serious for ND. “Notre Dame has been consistent throughout the season.” They started 0-2 against the only two real teams they played. They are a can crusher. Go check the schedule. Who have they played good since Miami? I'll wait..." wrote a fan.
"Every year. He’s a bigger Miami hater than everyone else in the media combined," posted another.
The debate between Miami and Notre Dame will continue if both teams win on Saturday. The CFP selection committee will render the final verdict on Dec. 7.
