Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has brutally dismissed Curtis Jones’ passionate interview that followed his side’s humiliating Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven.

For the second time in five days, the defending Premier League champions were thrashed at home in another deeply worrying display from Arne Slot’s side.

Liverpool shipped three without reply against Nottingham Forest on Saturday with Dutch side PSV running riot at Anfield on Wednesday night, beating the hosts 4-1.

In an interview with Irish broadcaster RTE, Jones admitted Liverpool ‘are in the s**t’ and it needs to change,’ also blasting his team’s lack of fight speaking to CBS Sports.

‘It’s got to be on me and the rest of the lads to change this around to not be so nice where teams are coming here thinking, “we’re gonna win here and score two, three, four goals.”

‘This used to be a place that you hated to come – with the fans and how we’re going to play and how we’re going to press and be absolute dogs.

‘Now we hardly even play. There’s times where we do play but off the ball stuff… I think that is the stuff that has to change.’

Carragher, who also insisted Arne Slot’s position as manager will soon become ‘untenable’, had little time for Jones’ reasoning, adamant there is nothing stopping the players from working harder.

‘Curtis Jones is not young anymore actually, he’s a local player, he’s passionate and he is obviously hurting right now and he has given an interview that will probably go everywhere,’ Carragher said.

‘I would have loved to see Mo Salah speaking there instead of Curtis Jones coming out. But when is saying, we need to put a tackle in, we need to get closer to the ball, who is stopping you?

‘The only thing in football someone can’t stop you doing is running. It might not happen with the ball, or the ability or the quality or people have lost confidence.

‘But no one can stop you tackling, running and pressing. So when he is saying we are not doing it, why aren’t they, then? Just do it. Don’t tell us you are not doing it or you are going to do it in the next game. Just do it. ‘

Defeat on Wednesday night was Liverpool’s ninth defeat in 12 games and their third loss by a three-goal margin in a row, marking their worst run of form in 71 years.
