Grand Theft Auto 6 was meant to be out by now but earlier this month, the long-awaited follow-up to 2013’s GTA 5 was delayed for a second time. It’s now set to launch November 19, 2026.
AdvertisementShortly after the first delay in May, Rockstar Games shared a new trailer, screenshots and information about the colourful cast of characters that would feature across the game. Despite rumours that a third trailer was set to launch this month, fans have been left waiting.
It’s perhaps why so many believed a “leak” that claimed to show Grand Theft Auto 6 protagonist Lucia exploring the rainy world of Vice City. The viral clip racked up more than 8million views in its first 24 hours.
🚨 GTA VI leak just dropped on TikTok, and it was taken down fast. In the footage, Lucia walks rainy Vice City promenade w/ insane dynamic weather, lifelike NPCs, palm trees & ocean vibes. Do you think the leak is real or fake? #GTA6 #GTAVI pic.twitter.com/B5DQy2YsjY

Now creator ZapActu has come clean. They told IGN the videos were designed to “observe people’s reactions and to demonstrate how easy it has become in 2025 to blur the line between reality and AI-generated content.” They went on to apologise to “anyone who felt frustrated, disappointed, or misled by these posts.”
“My intention was never to harm anyone,” they continued, after taking down the viral videos. “I simply wanted to create something intriguing that could bring people together and spark discussion within the GTA 6 community. I genuinely never expected a single video to generate such massive engagement and reach.”
RecommendedBack in 2022, a number of clips from Grand Theft Auto 6 were leaked online. Appearing in court the following year, one of the hackers (18-year-old Arion Kurtaj) revealed that they carried out the cyber attack from a Travelodge in Bristol using an Amazon Fire Stick. He was later sentenced to an indefinite hospital order.
Earlier this month, Grand Theft Fans were tricked by a viral X post that claimed a movie adaptation was in the works. The original GTA 6 trailer also became the most-viewed trailer in YouTube history, beating a record set by Avengers: Infinity War.
