The Boston Red Sox came into the offseason needing to add pitching, and they've already done it. Boston swung a trade for Sonny Gray earlier this week, but there are moves to be made.
The Red Sox are facing the possibility of losing Lucas Giolito in free agency. Gray is seemingly the replacement for Giolito, so it seems like the Red Sox might let him walk.
Zach Mentz of Cleveland.com recently projected Giolito would sign a three-year, $66 million deal in free agency this offseason.
..."Giolito, like King, has looked dominant at times when healthy and right," Mentz wrote. "After a rocky start to the 2025 season, he had a 2.51 ERA in his final 19 starts for the Red Sox."
Giolito is likely going to sign with a new team in free agency this winter.
The San Francisco Giants and New York Mets desperately need help in their respective starting rotations.
The Giants traded a few starters in the deal to bring in Rafael Devers. Acquiring Giolito would be affordable and a massive upgrade over what they already have.
The Mets missed the postseason due to a pitching staff that didn't have the top talent or depth to compete in the National League. They can certainly afford Giolito, so it wouldn't be surprising to see them make a move for the star.
