The Toronto Blue Jays starting rotation got a major upgrade heading into next season after signing right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease.
The Blue Jays nearly won it all this season, but fell short to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7 of the World Series. Despite the devastating loss, Toronto is already taking steps to improve for next season. In addition to signing Cease, the Blue Jays have retained most of their starting rotation from this season, and may be bringing back eight-time All-Star hurler Max Scherzer as well.
During a recent interview with Nick Alberga and Jay Rosehill, Scherzer teased a potential reunion with the Blue Jays next season, referencing that there's "unfinished business."
..."I want everybody in that exact same situation playing the exact same ball," Scherzer told Alberga and Rosehill in a video posted to X on Tuesday. "It's kind of weird to have that happen where you have such a gut-wrenching loss, and yet you have the whole team saying, 'No, we don't have a problem. We want to go back out there.'
"We kind of have the thought that the baseball gods got it wrong. We did everything right in a lot of different ways. That notion that there's some unfinished business, we know that we're a championship-caliber team, and we want to do that. From our standpoint, we just want everybody back. We just know the clubhouse works. We know how well we play together. It's such a good thing that we had there in '25 that we want to do in '26."
Scherzer struggled during the regular season, but improved in the postseason and pitched for Toronto is Game 7 of the World Series, allowing just one run in 4 1/3 innings pitched. The 41-year-old still has some gas left in the tank, and seems interested in potentially running it back with the Blue Jays next season.
