If we’re talking music in November, there’s no way of avoiding it: Rosalía’s Lux is incredible. You’ve read the thinkpieces, you already know the stats – it features lyrics in 13 different languages, it was recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra, it’s what Rosalía calls a “human album”: all that jazz. But what’s really powerful about the project is how it has managed to make such an impact on pop culture without compromising on its 50-minute, deeply conceptual runtime. Let’s hope that this isn’t the exception that proves the rule in today’s age of dwindling attention spans.

Anyways, that’s enough Rosalía – have you heard Ceebo’s new mixtape, Blair Babies? A rap manifesto for Gen Z political disillusionment featuring production from Mr Jim Legxacy himself, the project shows just how healthy the UK underground scene is right now – which has elsewhere seen the release of FEDERAL from the definitely-not-drill-inspired rage rapper Sinn6r and N4T’s colourful and eclectic GHANAMUSTreallyGO this November.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, because, in other corners of the music world this month, we’ve had the release of FKA twigs’ Eusexua Afterglow – a project that was initially conceived as a deluxe edition of January’s Eusexua before evolving into a distinct album in its own right. There’s also been the surprise return of anonymous ‘Lord of the Bins’ Lausse the Cat after a seven-year hiatus. Fortunately, his whimsical take on late night capers marks more than a return to form.

Rounding things off on the single front, we’d be remiss not to mention EsDeeKid’s “Century”. It might have been the masked Scouser’s first release since his debut album Rebel in June, but that hasn’t stopped EsDeeKid rising to become the fastest-growing artist in the world over the last few months. Finally, be sure not to miss: Skrillex continuing to become cool again with “hit me where it hurts x” featuring Dylan Brady and Caroline Polachek, electropop star Robyn coming back like she never left with “Dopamine”, UK dubstep legend Mala’s speaker-shaker “Militant”, and many more in the playlist above.

Album of the month: Rosalía – Lux (did we even need to say it?!)

Track of the month: EsDeeKid – “Century”

Although we post these round-ups at the end of every month, we update the playlist regularly for our subscribers – so be sure to follow us on Spotify for the hottest new tracks.
