By James BrizuelaShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberCleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett has been one of the most dominant defenders in the NFL for multiple seasons. The All-Pro and Defensive Player of the Year has posted more than 12 sacks each season for the past six seasons.

In 2025, Garrett is at 18 sacks and is tracking towards not only breaking the long-standing single-season sack record, but he plans to blow past it.
The single-season sack record was set by New York Giants Hall of Famer Michael Strahan in 2001, when he secured 22.5 sacks. The only other person who has tied that record is Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt, but he also got to 22.5 sacks in 17 games, as opposed to Strahan, who did in 16.
Regardless of the discrepancy of one game, no other player has surpassed 22.5 sacks in a season, but Garrett is on pace to completely destroy the record.
Currently, Garrett is averaging 1.63 sacks per game. That would place him around the 28 sack mark, should he keep his current pace. Despite no other player being able to secure more than 22.5, the Browns defender believes it's not a matter of when but a matter of the number he ends up with in 2025.

When speaking to reporters, Garrett offered a bold statement on the record, and a huge prediction about breaking the record.

Per The Athletic's Daniel Oyefusi:
“I don’t even think about it as a want. I just think about it as something I’m gonna knock down. It’s already been written in my mind that it’s going, it’s just how far I’m gonna take it," Garrett said.
It is hard not to imagine that Garrett will be the first-ever 23-sack player in the current NFL landscape. However, it will be interesting to see if he can completely blow past that figure and get somewhere in the 25-30 sack range for the 2025 season.
Garrett has had a strange trajectory, as he initially asked to be traded by the Browns during the 2025 offseason. Though the situation became tense, the organization offered him a four-year, $160 million extension, which was agreed on by both parties.
The Browns have not made much of a splash in 2025, but Garrett continues to showcase his elite skills as a defensive end.
