  • Amazon has released a Vega OS update that adds VPN support
  • Users can now use a VPN on Amazon's new Fire TV Stick 4K Select
  • Only NordVPN and IPVanish have already launched a Vega OS app

Amazon has finally released VPN support for its new Fire TV Stick 4K Select, more than a month after its launch.

Unlike previous Amazon streaming devices, the next-generation Fire TV Stick operates with the Linux-based Vega OS, which did not support VPN apps at launch. Until today, at least, when Amazon enabled it through an update.

This will certainly come as a relief for all streamers looking to boost their experience with one of the best VPN services on the market.

Not all VPN providers are ready yet, though. Since the October launch, only two services have built a new app that can run on Vega OS – NordVPN and IPVanish.

The good news doesn't end here, either. Both NordVPN and IPVanish have slashed their pricing with some great Black Friday VPN deals.

Why use a VPN with Amazon Fire TV Stick?

A VPN is a security tool that encrypts your internet connection and masks your real IP address, which can significantly upgrade your streaming experience.

The likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and similar platforms all apply geo-restrictions to their libraries. Yet, with a VPN, you're able to unlock foreign catalogs and keep watching all your favorite shows while traveling abroad.

Not only that, though. The VPN encryption ensures that snoopers cannot spy on your streaming habits. Plus, services like NordVPN and IPVanish both come with advanced tools to block intrusive ads and web trackers that can put your privacy at risk, while ruining your streaming marathons.

While we do rate Surfshark as the best Fire TV Stick VPN app, the company is yet to release an application compatible with Vega OS. That said, NordVPN is TechRadar's top-rated VPN overall, thanks to great performance and security, and it's now at its lowest price of the year. Here are all the details:
