By Michael GallagherShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe most highly anticipated decision of the weekend will presumably come on Saturday when Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is expected to decide whether he wants to stay put or leave for LSU.
Once it’s clear where Kiffin will be in 2026, then the next head-coaching domino is expected to fall.
Eli Drinkwtiz and Clark Lea removed themselves from the coaching carousel by signing contract extensions with Missouri and Vanderbilt, respectively.
There will still be plenty of high-profile jobs available including by the end of the weekend including Auburn, Florida, Penn State, and whichever school Kiffin doesn’t pick (LSU or Ole Miss), leaving Tulane’s Jon Sumrall to make a big decision of his own.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Sumrall has set a deadline for himself to make a decision on his coaching future as well.
“Sources: Tulane coach Jon Sumrall is expected to make a decision on his coaching future on Sunday morning,” Thamel wrote on X. “He's expected to choose between staying at Tulane, and his outside opportunities have included significant interest from Florida and Auburn.
“There's also potential ripples from Lane Kiffin's decision for Sumrall, as either LSU will remain open or Ole Miss will become open on Saturday. Tulane is No. 24 in the College Football Playoff and closes the season at home against Charlotte on Saturday night," he added in a follow-up tweet.

If Kiffin leaves for LSU, Sumrall is reportedly Ole Miss’ top candidate to replace him. If Kiffin stays, Sumrall could also be who LSU turns its attention to.
Reports emerged on Friday that Kiffin eliminated Florida from his final decision and that Sumrall was the Gators’ backup option. However, Steven Godfrey of the Washington Post also recently reported that Sumrall will be hired as Auburn’s next head coach sometime soon.
Sumrall could also throw a wrench in everyone’s plans and stay at Tulane, though that’s the least likeliest scenario of them all.
