Following Arizona's 23-7 win over Arizona State on Friday night, BYU was guaranteed a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game before having to play UCF on Saturday.

Despite being a lock to play for the conference championship, the No. 11 Cougars took care of business by beating the Knights 41-21 in front of 60,389 fans at LaVell Edwards Stadium to finish the regular season with an 11-1 record.

The victory will help BYU boost its resume for the College Football Playoff before the conference championship.

Following the victory, BYU's social media team made an argument that the Cougars deserved to be in the CFP after Saturday's result.

"11-1 Headed to the Big 12 Championship. It would be a disservice to our sport if this team’s not a playoff team," posted BYU Football on X.

The post was a shot at Texas head coach (and former BYU quarterback) Steve Sarkisian, who argued the Longhorns deserved to make the CFP after beating No. 3 Texas A&M on Friday night.

"If you really look at the body of work and you look at the Southeastern Conference and what we have to go through every week, you look at the non-conference schedule we play to go to Ohio State in week one and lose by seven when we outgained them by nearly 200 yards," Sarkisian said.

"We got a really good football team and it'll be a disservice to our sport if this team's not a playoff team when we went and scheduled that non-conference game."

A three-loss Texas would likely have to jump BYU to have any shot of making the CFP. The Cougars don't think the Longhorns deserve to.

Following No. 5 Texas Tech's 49-0 win over West Virginia on Saturday, Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire stood in solidarity with his Big 12 rival.

"No matter what happens, I think BYU and Texas Tech should be in the playoffs," McGuire said.

It'll be interesting to see how the selection committee decides between Texas and BYU. The Cougars have a better record, but the Longhorns have more impressive wins.
