By Cole SullivanShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberWith the final week of the college football regular season unfolding on Saturday, several games across the country were met with snow—a sight fans always love.
In Ann Arbor, Michigan, the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes faced off against the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines. Hours later, about 350 miles south in Champaign, Illinois, another historic Big Ten rivalry game took an even wilder turn.
Northwestern traveled to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini, and conditions were extreme on Saturday night, with a reported eight inches of snow already—the most in Gies Memorial Stadium history, according to Fox Sports.
Snow continued to fall up to kickoff and was expected to persist, eventually shifting to a rain/snow mix during the game, creating even more challenges for the players.

Football fans reacted to the weather in Champaign:
"Football weather right here," a fan said.
Someone else added, "That’s crazy they got that much snow already."
Another person wrote, "I don’t even like those teams but I’m going to have to watch for my mental health."
"Makes these boys into men," one more fan commented.
...The stadium was certainly not packed, with mostly die-hard fans in attendance, many there to support their team potentially one last time this season. Illinois officials decided to keep all fans on the west side of the stadium, closing off the opposite side, as the two teams battled for the Land of Lincoln Trophy in a rivalry that dates all the way back to 1892.
