The Kansas City Chiefs left Arrowhead Stadium in Week 12 with a 23-20 overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts, but it came at a cost for two of the team’s players.

The Chiefs fell behind 14-3 in the second quarter and 20-9 in the third before mounting an 11-point comeback in the fourth quarter and ultimately pulling out the victory in overtime.

But early in the first quarter, Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie was involved in a play that ended up hitting him hard in the wallet.

As he tackled Colts rookie tight end Tyler Warren, McDuffie reached out to grab him and ended up with a hand full of Warren’s facemask.

No flag was called on the play, but after reviewing the film, the NFL decided McDuffie’s actions warranted supplemental discipline, which is why the league fined him $11,593 for unnecessary roughness (facemask) on Saturday.

The Colts coaching staff protested the officials believing a flag should have been thrown, giving the Colts an extra 15 yards and a first down.

McDuffie wasn’t the only Chiefs player who was fined after the Colts game either. Offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia was also fined $8,108 for unnecessary roughness (blindside block).

Video replay showed the 6-foot-5, 325-pound offensive tackle bulldozing Colts cornerback Charvarius Ward, who’s 6-foot-1 and 196 pounds, during a run back.

“To protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity, the NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed on a set of game-related rules violations that may result in accountability measures,” the NFL explained on its website of why players are fined each week.
