The Toronto Blue Jays are looking around the market for high-end talent right now. One player in particular that has been connected to the organization played for one of their biggest rivals in 2025.
The New York Yankees acquired Cody Bellinger before the 2025 season from the Chicago Cubs and he had a 29-homer season. Now, he's one of the best overall left-handed bats on the market. His name has been mentioned for the Blue Jays a few times this offseason, but not as much as Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker.
While this is the case, FanSided MLB insider Robert Murray noted that the Blue Jays are "very open" to adding a "left-handed complement" along with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
..."Bellinger has played for the (Los Angeles Dodgers), (Chicago Cubs), and Yankees. What do each have in common? They all have won," Murray wrote. "It’s unlikely that Bellinger would want to play for a franchise that isn’t going to consistently contend for a championship after playing his first nine seasons doing just that. It’s always possible that (Arte Moreno) falls in love with Bellinger and offers him a contract he can’t refuse, but that scenario feels unlikely."
"Besides, the market for Bellinger will be active and lucrative. The Yankees remain interested in Bellinger even after Trent Grisham accepted the qualifying offer. The Blue Jays have been connected to Bellinger as well, and are very open to adding a left-handed complement alongside the right-handed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. There are surely many other teams interested in the star left-handed slugger."
If the Blue Jays can't bring back Bichette or sign Tucker, there may not be a better option out there than Bellinger. In a perfect world, the Blue Jays would find a way to sign Bichette and either of the outfielders, but the Blue Jays need pitching as well. So, two big-time bats don't seem likely at this point.
