The Mets' hole in center field still remains. Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo are expected to occupy two of the outfield spots. The Mets have some other internal options, but none that have proven they can be stars. Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer predicted the Mets would fix their outfield by trading for Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins.
During the All-Star break, Buxton said he would not waive his no-trade clause, but after the Twins sold off their other stars at the trade deadline, The Athletic's Dan Hayes reported that Buxton "may reconsider his stance for certain clubs if the Twins continue breaking up their roster."
...Just a few months ago, Buxton wanted to stay with the Twins "for life," but now a team like the Mets has a slight chance to get him. Buxton signed a seven-year, $100 million deal in 2021. He has dealt with injuries throughout his career, but when healthy he is a superstar.
He is a two-time All-Star, a Silver Slugger winner, Gold Glover and Platinum Glover. He was healthy last season and hit 35 home runs. He has hit 168 home runs in his career and copuld be a huge upgrade for the Mets in the outfield.
