Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman and her expiring contract have been major talking points ahead of the NWSL Championship Game in San Jose on Saturday between the Spirit and Gotham FC.
The final game of the NWSL season may also be Rodman's last with Washington, the team that drafted her out of Washington State in 2021. She immediately became one of the biggest stars in American soccer by leading the Spirit to the 2021 NWSL title and winning NWSL Rookie of the Year honors, tallying six goals and five assists in 22 games.
From there, Rodman launched her career with the United States Women's National Team and was rewarded by the Spirit with a four-year, $1.1 million contract extension, making her the highest-paid player in NWSL history.
Fast forward to 2025 and there are reportedly much bigger offers on the table for Rodman to consider when her contract runs out after Saturday's final. One of them came from cross-town club DC Power of the USL Super League, a team of particular interest to WNBA star Angel Reese.
...The Chicago Sky forward — who has established herself one of the most dominant rebounders in basketball since Rodman's father, Chicago Bulls legend Dennis Rodman — is a minority owner of DC Power.
This week, Meg Linehan and Tom Bogert of The Athletic reported that DC Power has made an offer to Rodman "significantly larger" than what the Spirit could offer under the NWSL's $3.3 million salary cap. Here is how Reese responded to that news via X on Friday.

Reese knows a thing or two about getting paid. She was able to turn hateful fan comments into money-making merchandise during the 2025 WNBA season, adding to her robust portfolio of sponsors that include McDonald's, Reebok and Hershey's.
Reese, a Maryland native, was named a founding owner of Power FC in 2024. "I want to help grow women's sports and elevate female athletes across the board," she said at the time. "We're taking over, and I'm honored to be able to support Power FC and invest in women's soccer in the DMV (District, Maryland, Virginia) community."
DC Power declined to comment on the reported offer to Rodman. According to The Athletic's report, three teams from the English Women's Super League have also been in talks with Rodman's agent. None of these suitors have to worry about a salary cap in their league, whereas the NWSL limits what Washington can offer to keep its biggest star.
Regardless of the WNBA star getting involved in the rumors, Rodman is prioritizing the NWSL Championship Game before she worries about her future.
"Once we get this championship, then I can start making decisions and figuring out what next year looks like for me,” Rodman said after the semifinal.
The NWSL Championship Game kicks off from PayPal Park at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday. It will be televised nationally on CBS and available to stream on Paramount+.
