By Evan MasseyShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe 2025 college football season is starting to wind down. With just a couple of weeks left in the regular season, including this week, the race for the Heisman Trophy is beginning to heat up.
Right now, there are quite a few players still in the running for the prestigious award. Among the top contenders are some elite quarterbacks throughout the nation. However, there are some other players who have a fighting chance as well.
Two of the most notable Heisman candidates include Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza and Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin. Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson has also been talked about a lot as a potential candidate.

While there are plenty of other players to note, Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love has been putting together a Heisman worthy season as well.
...Keeping that in mind, Todd McShay, a notable football analyst, spoke out with his thoughts on the Heisman race. He made it clear that he believes Love deserves to be in New York as a finalist for the award.
"If he doesn't get to New York, what the hell are we doing?" McShay said. "And I have a Heisman vote so I'll do my part."

Love has been a huge part of helping lead Notre Dame to an 8-2 record. The Fighting Irish are set for a major clash against the Syracuse Orange today. To close out the season, they will face off against the Stanford Cardinal.
Throughout the course of the season, Love has carried the football 177 times for 1,135 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 6.4 yards per carry. Love has also caught 26 passes for 274 yards and three more scores.
Simply looking at the numbers, Love belongs in the conversation. Without him on the field, it's quite possible that Notre Dame would not be in a position to make a run to the College Football Playoff.

Whether or not Love will be a Heisman Trophy finalist or not remains to be seen. McShay certainly believes he should be, as do many others, but there are quite a few players who belong in the conversation.
The 2025 Heisman Trophy award winner will be announced on December 13th this year. It will be interesting to see if Love is able to take home the major honor.
