By Cole SullivanShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe Kansas City Chiefs (5-5) have their backs firmly against the wall heading into Week 12 as they prepare to take on the Indianapolis Colts (8-2) at Arrowhead Stadium.
Kansas City sits in third place in the AFC West after last week’s loss to the Denver Broncos, and if the season ended today, the Chiefs would be on the outside looking in at the NFL playoffs — something Patrick Mahomes has never missed in his career.
Ahead of Sunday’s matchup, Mahomes and the Chiefs received some major injury news: wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who has been listed as questionable all week with an ankle injury, is now expected to play against Indianapolis.

Worthy has battled injuries throughout the season, but when he’s on the field, he remains highly productive and has become one of Mahomes’ most reliable targets since being drafted by Kansas City in 2024.
“Yeah, [Xavier Worthy] is just so explosive,” Mahomes said back in September. “You just see it when you get the football in his hands. The defenses have to adjust, and when they adjust, he draws so much attention that other guys can make plays happen.”
...Worthy has appeared in eight of the Chiefs’ 10 games this season, though he left Week 1 in the first half and did not return. He has also entered multiple weeks with an injury designation, which has kept him in and out of practice.
This season, he has hauled in 27 receptions for 281 yards and one touchdown, averaging 10.4 yards per catch. As a rookie last season, Worthy recorded 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns.
