Amazon and Mexico City officials on Thursday inaugurated a new logistics center in the Coyoacán borough, expanding the company's distribution network in the country.

The facility, designated "DXX2," covers 7,500 square meters and was opened in the presence of local authorities and Amazon executives.

Manola Zabalza Aldama, head of the city's Secretariat of Economic Development, told Revista Fortuna that the project shows how government and the private sector can collaborate to generate public benefit. "The best public policy will always be the creation of employment," she said. "In life there are two things: problems and solutions, and there is a point that unites both the government and Amazon: the obsession with finding solutions."

Diana Frances, general director of Amazon Logistics, said the company's total investment of 50 billion pesos has generated more than 10,000 direct jobs and 40,000 indirect jobs across Mexico. In Mexico City alone, Amazon reports 3,000 direct jobs and 18,000 indirect jobs.

Alejandro Encinas Rodríguez, the city's secretary of Metrópolis, and Enrique Palazuelos, undersecretary of Planning and Territorial Management, also attended the event. Palazuelos said the capital remains an attractive destination for investment. "As the Head of Government Clara Brugada says, there is no better social program than a job with full rights," he said.

The new center is intended to improve delivery efficiency and reinforce Mexico City's role as a strategic operational hub for Amazon in Latin America.

The inauguration comes as Amazon marks 10 years of operations in Mexico, as reported by Marketing4eCommerce. According to figures released in its latest Economic Impact Report, the company has invested more than 145 billion pesos in the country since 2015.

Amazon says that for every peso invested, 1.10 pesos in additional economic activity have been generated, contributing more than 29 billion pesos to Mexico's GDP in 2024, citing an independent analysis by Keystone Strategy.

Amazon reports that it now has 27,000 active sellers in Mexico, 99% of which are small and medium-sized enterprises offering more than 5 million products. Across its logistics, cloud, and delivery operations, Amazon says it employs more than 150,000 people in Mexico and plans to continue expanding workforce inclusion programs and sustainability initiatives, including the electrification of its last-mile fleet.
