By Aaliyan MohammedShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe Los Angeles Dodgers have won back-to-back World Series and have not shown any signs of giving up their aggressive offseason approach. Their team does not have many deficiencies, but the outfield could use some help.
Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages figure to go into the year with two of the outfield spots locked up. Pages did not have a great end to the season, but slashed .272/.313/.461 with 27 homers on the year. The third outfield spot, however, was very unproductive for the Dodgers.
A healthy Tommy Edman gives the Dodgers another outfield option. The team also has Hyeseong Kim and Kiké Hernández as options in the outfield. However, given how aggressive the team has been in the last two years, MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince predicted they would win the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes. The Toronto Blue Jays have been tabbed as favorites for Tucker, but the Dodgers have money and may present the best chance to win a World Series.
..."Ah, but the Dodgers always seem ready to stand in Toronto's way," Castrovince wrote. "They did it when they signed Shohei Ohtani, and again when they signed Roki Sasaki ... and again in Game 7 of this year’s World Series. They'll do it once more by using the roughly $40 million they have coming off the books to land a guy who fills one of their few holes."
Tucker has been named an All-Star in each of the last four seasons. He has 134 home runs since 2021 and is one of the best players in the entire league. He had a down year with the Chicago Cubs, but his splits indicate he may be better suited not playing half of his games at Wrigley Field.
He had a .747 OPS at home and only hit seven home runs. On the road, he hit 15 home runs and had a .923 OPS. He also battled through a hand injury in the second half of the season. A new home stadium and a fresh start could set him up to once again put up superstar numbers.
