King Charles is set to travel across the pond to meet Donald Trump next year and mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The monarch has been invited for a state visit by Washington DC next April, the Sun reported.

It will form part of a series of celebrations planned by the Trump administration to mark 250 years since the nation’s foundation.

The transatlantic trip will be subject to the King being well enough, with the 77-year-old head of state currently undergoing treatment for cancer.

He is expected to be joined by his wife, Queen Camilla, for the landmark visit.

Buckingham Palace has yet to comment on the planned trip.

Trump was welcomed by the King in September for an unprecedented second state visit.

The US president was treated to military pomp and ceremony at Windsor Castle, where he met other prominent members of the Royal Family, before sharing bilateral talks with Sir Keir Starmer.

Charles has made more than a dozen overseas trips since becoming King, including state visits to France, Italy and Kenya.

Last month he and the Queen both undertook a visit to the Holy See to meet Pope Leo XIV to mark the jubilee year of the Catholic Church.

The visit also marked the first time since the Reformation a British monarch publicly prayed with a pope.

As well as the planned state visit to the US next year, the King is also due to take a royal tour of Canada in 2026.

He is also planning to visit Antigua and Barbuda for the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
