However, Patrick Mahomes and company rallied from a 20-9 deficit in the fourth quarter as the defense stood tall, not allowing the Colts to gain a first down in the fourth quarter or overtime as Kansas City escaped with a 23-20 victory.
"This is exactly what we needed, to win against a really good team and the game is not going your way," Mahomes said after the game. "You could've folded in that situation -- and kind of the rest of the season -- but guys responded. It was a do-or-die type of thing. Guys made plays happen."
While the Chiefs got the win, they suffered an unfortunate development in the process.

Kansas City entered the weekend as the No. 9 seed in the AFC playoff race, just two spots out of the final wild card seed. Despite a critical win over the Chiefs dropped from the No. 9 seed to the No. 10 seed thanks to two AFC North teams.
The Baltimore Ravens easily dispatched the New York Jets on Sunday while the Pittsburgh Steelers lost in a thrilling showdown against the Chicago Bears. Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, riding a five-game winning streak, jumped the Steelers in the AFC North standings and took over the No. 4 seed in the AFC playoff race while the Steelers fell from No. 4 to No. 8.
Baltimore entered the weekend as the No. 10 seed, but now sit in position to host a playoff game while the Chiefs are one step further away from a playoff spot.
