Dominik Mysterio’s WWE Tag Team Officially Gets New Name

A major alliance has officially formed in AAA between WWE star Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano. The pairing has quickly been thrust into a high-stakes tag team feud following their recent action in Mexico. The name for this newly created duo was recently revealed via a backstage video to be Los Gringos Locos 2.0.

The formation of the team began at the Heroes Inmortales 2025 event in Mexico City. During that show, Dominik Mysterio successfully defended his AAA Mega Championship against Dragon Lee. The match descended into chaos after Mysterio won using his classic heel tactics.

Following the contest, El Hijo del Vikingo attacked Mysterio for his actions. It was only due to the timely presence of El Grande Americano that Mysterio was able to defend himself against the enraged star. This chaotic moment marked the official beginning of the new partnership between Mysterio and Americano.

Since the formation of the alliance, the team has found immediate success on the AAA brand. The newly formed Los Gringos Locos 2.0 was able to secure a major victory over Vikingo and Dragon Lee at the AAA Alianzas event. They were later announced to be facing the legendary Lucha Brothers in their next match.

The highly anticipated tag team bout against Rey Fenix and Penta is set for Guerra de Titanes. In a behind-the-scenes video posted by Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, Dominik spoke about his upcoming challenge. He welcomed the confrontation at the PPV.

Dominik Mysterio was seen speaking about the upcoming match in his role as the reigning champion. “Lucha Brothers, it looks like we’ll see you in Guadalajara, December 20th. The AAA Mega Champion, the king of the Luchadores, will see you there,” Mysterio said about the confrontation.

The selection of the team name, Los Gringos Locos 2.0, is directly intended to pay tribute to a classic heel duo. The original Los Gringos Locos was comprised of the late WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero and Art Barr in AAA Lucha Libre. The current WWE duo is paying respect to that prestigious heritage of the name with their own partnership.

Given the cohesion that Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano have shown in the ring so far, their match against the Lucha Brothers is expected to be a certified classic. However, their heel tactics might not be sufficient to secure a victory against the legendary Lucha Brothers. Penta and Rey Fenix are well known for their high-flying, cohesive, and explosive offense.

The Lucha Brothers have not teamed together since their exit from AEW, adding gravity to this AAA tag match. Rey Fenix is currently a SmackDown star, and his brother, Penta, is a fixture on the Raw brand. This tag team contest at Guerra de Titanes is one of several major matches planned for the December 20 event. The show will also feature El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. defending the AAA Latin American title against Ethan Page. Additionally, The Wyatt Sicks are scheduled to face the legendary Psycho Circus in a chaotic affair.
