Emmerdale and Coronation Street are both gearing up for what promises to be an unmissable soap event – a special crossover episode, dubbed Corriedale, that will see characters from both soaps interacting with each other for the first time ever.

The idea of Emmerdale characters turning up in the Rovers Return, or Corrie’s cast popping in for a drink in the Woolpack, has led to huge speculation as to who might be involved, and how the separate plots going on in each show could be combined.

The only characters officially confirmed to be taking part are Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and Corrie cop Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers). A Wanted poster of John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) has previously been spotted in Weatherfield police station, leading many to suspect that John will return from Europe with unfinished business with Aaron – and end up in Manchester.

Another idea which sounds very plausible is that the gang that Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) has been hiding from could be linked to Emmerdale’s drugs and people trafficking operation, run by Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths).

We’ve seen that Celia is certainly ruthless enough to terrorise even the hardest undead former police officer, so it’s a mouth-watering idea that we could get a showdown between Celia and Becky.

And the good news is that Jaye Griffiths has certainly not ruled it out. In fact when we asked her whether Celia could appear in Corriedale she replied by saying,

‘Watch this space. She has fingers in many pies.’

Celia has become a favourite with fans, but Jaye admitted that their reaction to the character has changed over time.

‘They loved her when she started. They really liked how bold she was… and then she hurt April (Amelia Flanagan),’ she said, referring to the moment when Celia’s true character was revealed to the audience.

We originally encountered her as an eccentric and rather flamboyant farmer neighbour of Moira (Natalie J Robb)’s. With her cravat, hat and stick she swaggered on to our screens, originally seeming to be in league with Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) but soon switching her allegiance and going into partnership with Moira – though more to Celia’s than Moira’s advantage.

There were glimpses of ruthlessness from Celia, but it was after April almost exposed Ray (Joe Absolom)’s drug dealing operation when she dropped some pills that Leo (Harvey Rogerson) then ate, landing him in hospital, that Celia’s true colours were seen.

She slapped April and threatened her with death if anything similar should happen again, as we realised that Celia is the kingpin of the drugs and people trafficking operation.

Jaye said that this has made people enjoy watching Celia in a different way.

‘People are drawn to watching. They don’t want to meet her, but they want to watch her. It’s like watching a predator in action, you just don’t want to encounter it in your own life!’ she laughed.

As to how she could potentially wind up in Weatherfield, currently Celia’s situation in Emmerdale is getting quite intense, with April becoming a bigger liability every day as she believes she killed a man, and with the discovery that Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards), who has been coerced into working on Celia’s farm in modern day slavery conditions, is actually a local man.

‘It is infuriating that, yet again, Ray has messed up,’ Jaye said. ‘They never take locals, because of this scenario. Locals have families, locals are known, they’re missed, we don’t touch them.’

Jaye said that if she got close to being caught, Celia would just leave.

‘She just moves on and sets up somewhere else. She would simply deny and move on,’ she said.
