Severe thunderstorms come as Thanksgiving looms

The severe weather in areas of Mississippi and Louisiana threatens to complicate travel ahead of Thanksgiving on Thursday, one of the busiest times of the year for road, rail, and air as Americans hop across the country to be with friends and family for the holiday.

The AAA forecasts that 81.8 million people will travel at least 50 miles from their homes starting today and ending Monday, December 1, for the Thanksgiving period—a 1.6 million increase on the year before. Nearly 90 percent of those will travel by car, the AAA said.
