By Jon Paul HoornstraShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberIf Wander Suero's parents were not yet convinced of the power of nominative determinism, the past year has given them something to think about.
Suero, 34, joined his third organization in the past three months Thursday when he signed a minor league contract with the Oakland A's.

The right-hander began his professional career with the Washington Nationals in 2010 and remained with the organization for 12 seasons, helping the Nats win the 2019 World Series along the way.
...Since then, Suero's career has been a vagabond journey through the Los Angeles Angels (2022), Los Angeles Dodgers (2023), Houston Astros (2024), Atlanta Braves (2025) and New York Mets (2025) organizations.
The Braves signed Suero to a minor league contract in January and invited him to their major league spring training camp, bringing him back to the National League East after a four-year absence.

But Suero would make only five major league appearances with the Braves last season, allowing eight runs in 6.1 innings (11.37 ERA), before he was designated for assignment in September.
Suero stayed in the division when he was claimed by the Mets two days later. He made two scoreless appearances at Triple-A Syracuse, but did not appear in a big league game with the Mets.

Suero elected free agency after the season and continued pitching in the Dominican Winter League for Licey. Now, he'll head to the A's organization for another shot at getting back to the major leagues in 2026.
In 45 appearances with the Mets' and Braves' Triple-A affiliates last season, Suero posted a 1.29 ERA, limited opponents to a .201 batting average, and struck out 64 hitters in 48.2 innings.
Suero is 15-14 with a 4.96 ERA in 196 career appearancesin the major leagues, all as a reliever.
Coincidentally, the Mets just signed veteran right-handed reliever Nick Burdi to a minor league contract, giving them a logical replacement for Suero on their bullpen depth chart.
