By Evan MasseyShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberIt has been quite some time since the Arkansas Razorbacks were viewed as a serious contender in the SEC. Despite the program falling off from its past glory days, the pride has not left the fan base.
After another slow start to the 2025 college football season, Arkansas decided to make a change.
Sam Pittman, who had been coaching the Razorbacks since the 2020 season, was let go from his position. Since that decision was made, Arkansas has been linked to quite a few different names as potential replacement options.

With that being said, a new name has been thrown into the mix. This name is quite possibly the most surprising name that has been talked about as a potential target for the Razorbacks.
...ESPN analyst Mark May spoke out with his opinion on the search and suggested a very well-known veteran name in the coaching industry. He thinks that former Texas Longhorns and North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Mack Brown could make sense.
Of course, this option is a bit surprising considering the fact that Brown is now 74 years old.
"If ya'll hire Mack Brown, I'll come down and give those offensive linemen some lessons," May said. "I'll help you recruit if you hire Mack."
Brown is a legendary a name in the circle of college football head coaches. If he is interested in the job, it might be wise for Arkansas to at least consider the option.
Throughout his long and successful college coaching career, Brown has compiled a 288-155-1 overall record. He also won a national championship at Texas during the 2005 college football season.
Most recently, Brown was the head coach at North Carolina before parting ways with the program. In six years with the Tar Heels, Brown was able to guide the team to a 113-79-1 record.

This is an incredibly important coaching search for the Razorbacks. They simply cannot afford to miss with whoever they choose to take over the reigns of the program. Going with a longtime proven head coach like Brown could make a lot of sense.
Expect to continue hearing rumors and rumblings coming out of Arkansas. Even though the program hasn't been great for some years, it's still a very intriguing job and offers an SEC opportunity.
