Lucas, 29, made six regular-season appearances for the Blue Jays in 2025 but was not included on the team's roster in the postseason — including the World Series.

In his six games with Toronto (five starts), Lucas went 3-3 with a 6.66 ERA. He was 2-3 with a 3.78 ERA in 17 games (13 starts) at Triple-A Buffalo.
...According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet, Lucas is expected to sign with a foreign professional team after he clears waivers.

Lucas had exhausted his minor league options, and might have been limited to signing a minor league contract if he chose to play in North American in 2026. He's 4-3 with an 8.02 ERA in 20 career games with the Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, and Oakland A's over the last three seasons.
A native of Thousand Oaks, California, Lucas was selected in the 14th round of the 2019 MLB draft by the Miami Marlins. He was traded to the Baltimore Orioles that same year in the deal that sent Jonathan Villar to Miami.

After nearly four years in the Orioles' organization without getting called up to the majors, Lucas was traded again — this time to Oakland in a 1-for-1 swap for pitcher Shintaro Fujinami.
Lucas made nine appearances for Oakland from 2023-24, allowing 12 earned runs in 10.1 innings (10.45 ERA).

Lucas was claimed off waivers by the Tigers in May 2024, and made three relief appearances for the Tigers before he was placed on waivers again.
Toronto claimed Lucas in August 2024, and he had remained a Blue Jay ever since. Now Lucas will head overseas, with a World Series ring in tow, perhaps with a chance to compete in his new country's top league.
