...The Golden State Warriors don’t have a return date targeted for Jonathan Kuminga at the moment.
The young veteran forward is battling bilateral knee tendonitis, and his head coach, Steve Kerr, has revealed that Kuminga is on a day-to-day timeline. In the coach’s eyes, there isn’t much clarity on where Kuminga is in his recovery.
There was an MRI last week, which came back clear, but Kuminga hasn’t been practicing or playing in games.
“It’s bothering him so it’s just day to day,” Kerr told reporters on Monday night, before the Warriors faced the Utah Jazz. “So that hasn’t changed since (Sunday), so that’s what I mean by not having any more clarity.”
...Curious reporters attempted to get a grasp on how Kuminga is feeling, as he’s not obligated to speak on his setback. The Athletic’s Nick Friedell took a shot on it, but was unsuccessful. According to a report, Kuminga declined to comment on his setback, even after hearing that Kerr told reporters that “he’s got to tell you where he is.”
Reporters might've been unsuccessful before the game, but after was a different story. According to ESPN's Anthony Slater, Kuminga had a one-word response to injury-related questions.

With six consecutive absences and potentially more coming, Kuminga’s lack of details will keep the curiosity high outside of the Warriors’ locker room. The fact that he’s coming off such a drama-filled summer will only add to the speculation surrounding the former lottery pick.
Throughout most of the 2025 offseason, Kuminga was unsigned, sitting on the free agency market as a restricted player, waiting for a big offer sheet to sign. Only the Warriors made a notable offer, and initially, Kuminga didn’t want to budge. Eventually, Kuminga signed a two-year, $48.5 million contract, which has a team option attached. He is locked in with the Warriors until 2026, but could still change teams in January when a trade is no longer restricted.
In 13 games with the Warriors, Kuminga started all but one matchup. He’s averaging 13.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, while shooting 47 percent from the field and 32 percent from deep. Both sides would like the pairing to work. Outsiders aren’t buying that Kuminga will play out the full two years in the Golden State. Therefore, the absences and the near-silence will only add more fuel to the inevitable trade rumors regarding Kuminga later this season.
