The Black Friday sales in Australia represent the opportune time to score wishlist items at a much lower price, whether it’s home appliances, phones or my personal favourite, headphones and audio. It’s seemingly become more common for headphone manufacturers to charge obscene sums for their latest releases – AU$999 AirPods Max, anyone? – which makes Black Friday all the more worthwhile, as you can usually score a talented pair at a knock-down price.
You may have your eyes set on a specific set, but in case you were wondering what deals are available, or need some direction on which pairs are worth buying, I’ve found 4 deals, all under AU$400, that get my personal seal of approval.
Save 35% (AU$209)Sonos Ace: was AU$599 now AU$390 at The Good GuysThe Sonos Ace are my outright favourite on this list. I’ve owned a pair since they launched and have yet to be swayed by anything else. They’re unbelievably comfortable and I love how they sound. ANC, I feel, is up there with the best (I can barely hear a murmur on a train, for example), and a 30-hour battery life means you can go some time between charges. Throw in the ability to deliver Dolby Atmos soundtracks to your ears via a Sonos soundbar, and you have yourself one of the best pairs of headphones for both music and movies. Hit the Price Beat button to get the full saving.

Save 21% (AU$68.80)Sony WH-1000XM4: was AU$328 now AU$259.20 at Sony AustraliaThere’s a reason Sony continues to produce this five-year-old pair: they do so much right. They’re comfortable, sport a travel-friendly design, sound fantastic, and their ANC performance can still hold up against fresher competition. As an all-rounder, they’re simply fantastic. Save 60% (AU$375.95)Sennheiser Momentum 4 (Special Edition): was AU$624.95 now AU$249 at AmazonPerhaps the biggest bargain of Black Friday at AU$249, the Momentum 4 Wireless headphones are a no-brainer if you value comfort, solid ANC and exceptional battery life. Their sound profile is well-balanced, so they’ll play nicely with all music genres, and the ability to last 60 hours on a single charge makes them ideal for long-haul journeys.

Save 40% (AU$200.95)Bose QuietComfort SC: was AU$499.95 now AU$299 at AmazonNo headphone deals round-up would be complete without something from Bose, and the QuietComfort SC are a terrific buy, especially at this price. They may miss out on some features found on the flagship Ultra Headphones, but for excellent ANC performance, a crisp, rich sound and all-day comfort, this more affordable set barely puts a foot wrong. And, in case you were wondering, the SC simply refers to the fact that these Bose over-ears come with a soft carry case, as opposed to a hard shell.
